I find myself in such deep gratitude for my life. The ups the downs the trails and tribulations and the community which love and support me. Those who do are so near and dear to my heart and yet are all to often not anywhere physically present, a strange dichotomy.
My sense of family is so rich and I am grateful for the days I can spend with those I call family chosen or born. This incarnation I chose well, sisters who love, inspire and support me regardless of differences and parents who I know did their best. I am even more deeply blessed to have a niece and nephews who love, respect and honor who I am. Not just because we are related but because of who I have become as an individual.
I have had the blessing to spend the past two days with my youngest nephew during his undergraduate graduation. It’s good to know our inability to be serious all the time is hereditary and our passion for music, art, dance and deep love for each other is unabiding.
This IS what life is about LOVE, connection, ability to be one’s self, to express themselves freely, to be who we are without judgement and with acceptance. I remember when I started to express my need to teach around the “spirexual” nexus I was concerned what my family would think. I didn’t grow up talking abut sex, politics and religion, these were not polite topics. Honestly it’s all I talk about some days, lol!
Having a supportive core around you can make or break a person and life is too short to waste it on those who don’t believe in you. I was blessed and I know many whose family of choice IS who supports them and not their family of origin. In so many cases they are so much more important and impactful to your day to day support.
who ever it is you get your support from make sure you support them back. Connection and love are a two way street and cannot be replaced. Revel in the joy of whatever family you have or have developed, get new ones when old ones fade away for what ever reason. Our life is built on change and impermanence, not meant to be stationary. Love your life to the fullest each and every day you are able and when you’re challenged know you can try again tomorrow.
No one is promised tomorrow.
A quote from my mothers kitchen “There are no strangers only friends we haven’t met”. Give it a try and see what blossoms. The beauty of life is creating connections and finding love where it blooms!
