A Feast of Sekhmet -
At CounterPulse SF Gallery
At CounterPulse Gallery in San Francisco, I offered Feast of Sekhmet as a living ritual in the form of an art exhibition. CounterPulse is known as a home for experimental and interdisciplinary performance, and it provided the perfect setting for this devotional work, an intersection of art, ritual, and community.
The centerpiece of the exhibition was my large-scale painting, “Ascending the Priestess Path”, created as both altar and backdrop. In collaboration with Joe Perri WolfMercury Photography, I posed in front of this piece to embody the many aspects of Sekhmet’s priestesses: fierce, tender, ecstatic, surrendered. Each photograph became a ritual act, a prayer captured in image, a transmission of Her power.
Together with artists Lanise McKenzie, Dhaisha Edmond, and Fiona Gaia, I co-created a full-size statue of Sekhmet. Visitors were invited to encounter the statue as a living embodiment of Sekhmet, a form through which reverence could be expressed and relationship deepened.
At the opening, I released my book of devotional poetry and art - Sekhmet: Honoring the Goddess Within. The opening and closing rituals were woven with song, movement, and poetry. MawuLisa Thomas-Adeyemo, Z Griss, and Lanise McKenzie offered their voices and dance in devotion, amplifying the resonance of Sekhmet’s call. These performances framed the exhibition as more than static art. They made it a living, breathing invocation, honoring the Goddess in community.
This gallery is a continuation of that offering. May it serve as a portal for those who seek Her, for those who carry Her, and for those who are ready to be transformed.
