Art of the
African Diaspora
In this year’s Art of the African Diaspora exhibition at the Richmond Art Center, I offer an assemblage gathering sacred implements of the priestesses of Sekhmet and Hathor: A menat necklace with its counterpoise of Sekhmet, a mirror of Hathor, a ritual hunting stick inscribed with lotus and udjat eye symbols, and the ostrich feather of ma’at truth and balance. Each object carries the resonance of temple ritual, of dance, of embodied prayer. Together, they form not only an artwork, but a living altar of my devotion.
